This week.

What is it about this week?

Is there bad mojo all of a sudden being passed throughout the country? Is it something in the water? And is there some sort of “beyond-our-understanding”, cosmic connection to the horrific events that have happened this week? It seems like something out of fiction. Maybe this is how the apocalypse starts. Maybe this is a sign that something is coming, or that we are entering a dark time. Maybe the Winchesters from Supernatural broke Lucifer out of hell and he’s decided to toy with the country.

Or maybe it’s just the worst week in American history.

An Ode to a Dear Friend

If the world were different, I would be calling one of my closest friends today and wishing her a Happy 19th Birthday. We would talk about how, naturally, Doctor Who would be on TV on her birthday, and we’d talk about the upcoming movie adaptations of our favorite books. We’d fangirl together and discuss the newest happenings on Tumblr. We’d laugh and smile, together.

However, the world works in its own ways. She passed away on December 21st, and it’s been about 3.5 months since that day. Though it’s been sometime, it’s not something you can get past, and as Ziva David puts it, “You only get through”.

*It’s been 5 months since my last post. Oops. Prepare for a very long entry, or just skim if you’d like. I think my writing class on Fandoms has gotten to me, but I suddenly found the inspiration for an entry whilst doing Organic Chemistry homework, and decided I wanted to put this little opinion out to the world. Pass it around. Let it be known. And let me know what you think in the comments.*

First I just want to apologize for not updating. It’s been almost TWO MONTHS!!! School has been very busy, and I like writing posts when I really think there’s something I want to talk about. I pondered this question the other day and, luckily, remembered I had a blog I could record my thoughts about it in. Please don’t hate me, and enjoy the new post!!!

“So, tell me what happened.”

“Well, it’s kind of a long story.”

“Okay, tell me what happened in a nutshell.”

A nutshell.

I was 6 years old. I was sitting in Mrs. Ikeda’s 2nd grade class. It was business as usual. And then, just like that, we got sent home. The announcement sent us reeling, an entire day off of school! But when I walked outside, it was loud. Really loud. I looked up. Giant black helicopters were flying every which way over the school. That’s when my excitement dissipated. Even at the age of 6, I knew something was wrong. I think my mom picked me up from school, and then I was home. I ran to the television, anticipating a day of relaxation, when I saw it.

*Sorry I’ve been behind on posting, still getting used to the college life! Hope this’ll make up for the wait*

I’ve been at college for a little over a week now. And while many things make it great and wonderful, etc., I’ve noticed there is something missing that can contribute to the easy-to-breath environment and relaxation. There isn’t that strong air of separation between groups, no “one group of friends” sections, no people known on campus as “those girls” or classified into other categories.

There are no cliques. And it rocks.

College, Here I Come

Hello! Sorry I’ve been gone for so long, procrastination has caught up with me and I got really busy.

As you can tell by the title of this post, I’ve been prepping for college. Tomorrow I start the 2-day journey to my dream school, with my great classes, and my soon-to-be-made friends. I’ve spent the past weeks constantly running errands for last-minute items to add to my already obnoxious pile of  “stuff” that will essentially be my life for the next year. Nevertheless, it is as thrilling as it is stressful.

Why We Love Superheros

*Disclaimer: I recently re-watched the Avengers, and thought that I would geek out here. Also, I haven’t really read the comics, so don’t kill me if I’m wrong about something. Enjoy!

Marvel. DC. Everyone who has ever heard these words knows exactly what they represent. They begin to list off names of powerful beings, human or not. Those who have made a difference in fiction and reality. Heroes who have thousands of people in cosplay at the San Diego Comic Con each year.

But why do these fictionalized beings cause us to completely geek out and make The Avengers the 3rd best selling movie of all time? Well, that’s simple. Because we love them.

Normally, I wouldn’t blog about serious topics. I try to keep things light hearted and up beat, but I really wanted to write about the shooting at the Dark Knight Rises premiere in Aurora, CO.

I’m just going to say it: I don’t like the dentist. It always smells a little too clean, and drilling sounds from other rooms aren’t very reassuring. I just want to lean back in the chair and get it over with. And the one thing that makes the process go slower is something ALL dentists do.

They talk.
